It’s the beginning of February and that of course means that Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. As I have mentioned in previous posts, Valentine’s Day is not a big celebration in my house. My husband views it as a made-up holiday, so although he will give me a card, it doesn’t have quite the same romantic vibe of a Hallmark movie! Luckily though, I am very happy to make my Valentine’s Day a day of indulgence and self-care and make sure I am never disappointed. To quote Miley Cyrus, “I can buy myself flowers, I can hold my own hand” etc. etc. And I certainly will be buying flowers, chocolates and maybe take myself on a little date to my favourite café with a fabulous book. Perfect!
I came across Valentine’s Day miniatures
soon after taking an interest in making miniature scenes and I quickly grew
excited imagining the romance I could create with these tiny . I ordered a
few extra minis and found myself making some miniature love letters so now I
have plenty of things to create a whole backstory.
Chocolate & Candy
First, here is the classic box of chocolates. I LOVE how old fashioned they look, far more intricate than a box of Cadbury Favourites that we’re likely to be gifted nowadays! They are what I imagined receiving when I was a kid and had some very unrealistic expectations about what I assumed dating would be like as an adult. There are also these miniature heart shaped candies that are a delightful idea for a Valentine’s gift that is an alternative to chocolate (or both would be nice too!).
Valentine's Day Cards
Next, these miniature Valentine’s cards are just the sweetest. Alongside a bottle of perfume, they are gorgeous. I can’t imagine buying perfume for another person, but the idea sounds very romantic. Of course, the flowers are the main event for any romantic occasion. I had hoped to find miniature red roses to add to the store but I’m still on the hunt for some so these tulips are holding their place for now.
Miniature Love Letters
And finally, the mini love letters. There is something about the nostalgia of letter writing that warms my heart and fills me with joy. The thought of a couple pouring their hearts out in love letters, waiting painstakingly for a reply and not knowing if their beloved will be waiting for them, it’s so dramatic and angst ridden. In real life of course, this would be a terrible relationship, probably toxic and unlikely to ever work out. But stay with me here - for the purposes of Valentine’s Day, I can suspend disbelief and embrace the magic of romance.
I hope that you enjoy your Valentine’s Day in whatever way is right for you, in real life and in miniature. Even if it’s just a good reason to indulge in some fancier than usual chocolates and a bunch of flowers.
I’ll see you next week for something a bit different – I’ll be chatting about some of the wonderful miniature makers on Instagram and I am certain you will love seeing what they are creating!
See you then,
Claire
