Well hello there!

I’m so excited to be here for my first blog as the new owner of Tom Thumb’s Miniatures. I sent out the first newsletter in December introducing myself but in case you missed it, I'll give you a quick intro so you know who I am! My name is Claire, I live in the Adelaide Hills in South Australia with my husband, kids and best little fluffy sidekick, Frankie the Groodle. My career has included librarian, stay-at-home-mum, homeschooling mum and now a miniatures shop owner. Isn't life interesting? You never know where it will take you.

In case you are wondering what the difference is between a newsletter and a blog (as I have wondered when reading other blogs!), I'm thinking that the newsletter is good for a quick monthly summary of interesting products and sales in the store. The blog will have more general chats about what miniatures people are making, inspiration for new projects and any miniature news and events happening in Australia. If you are interested in keeping up with all things Tom Thumb's via the newsletter, drop me an email at hello@tomthumbs.com.au and I'll pop you on the list. My plan at this stage is for the blog to be weekly so I'd love you to read it and hope you will find fun and interesting topics to enjoy.

If you happen to be following me on social media, then you will know my transition to taking on Tom Thumb's has been a bit of a whirlwind so far. I opened the shop in early November but soon discovered the stock I had didn't completely match the website. My previous librarian life kicked into action and I found myself on a massive organisation spree, including a full stock take of the store, re-arranging shelving and products, while learning how to find everything. I look forward to sharing more behind the scenes content as my work area (aka my spare lounge room) comes together.

I have lots of ideas for the store and am still planning how this will look in 2025. I am keen to explore DIY miniature making, different types of miniatures, miniature displays and interstate places of interest, as well as local creators and artists. I would love to share ideas and inspiration and connect with other miniature lovers out there. It's wonderful knowing that this community exists and that you never know what creativity could be bubbling under the surface of every person you meet, online or in real life. If you have thoughts for what miniature products you would like to see in the shop, please do drop me a line.

That's all from me for now. I'll be back next week to chat about some of my recent projects and new items landing in the store.

See you next time!

Claire
